Whenever you find your item templates in visual studio disappear, need not re-install your visual studio. Just go to MS Visual Studio 2008 and enter the below command:
devenv/ installvstemplates.
It will run silently for 1-2 minutes, do not close it while installing.
You will not see any prompt after installation.
